Lucas Paqueta Drops Strong Hint Over West Ham Future
Social media message raises questions
Lucas Paqueta has left West Ham supporters with the clearest indication yet that his time in east London may soon be drawing to a close. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Brazilian midfielder combined gratitude with finality, writing:
“It’s about choosing those who welcomed you, who never judged you, who believed in you until the very last moment, who loved you and made you feel at home. It’s about staying loyal not only when you had everything, but also when there was nothing… it’s not time to say goodbye yet! Let’s go together for one more season!”
The phrasing, “one more season”, suggests Paqueta views this campaign as his last with West Ham, despite turning down a late move to Aston Villa in the summer.
Loyalty after controversy
The 28-year-old’s choice to stay put was shaped by more than footballing ambition. This summer, Paqueta was cleared of spot-fixing allegations following a two-year investigation by the Football Association. The ordeal, which derailed a near-finalised £85 million transfer to Manchester City in 2023, had threatened to stain his career.

His response to being vindicated was telling. After scoring in West Ham’s emphatic 3-0 victory at Nottingham Forest before the international break, Paqueta kissed the badge, underlining his appreciation for the club that stood by him.
Gratitude towards West Ham
Sources close to the midfielder believe he feels indebted to the Hammers for their unwavering support throughout the FA inquiry. That sense of loyalty, coupled with his recent form – three goals in his last three matches – explains why he rejected Aston Villa’s advances.
Still, speculation over his long-term future refuses to fade. Several Premier League sides remain alert to his availability, and with Paqueta himself hinting at closure, West Ham may need to prepare for life beyond their Brazilian star.
Legacy in east London
Since joining in 2022, Paqueta has made 95 league appearances, scoring 14 goals and playing a central role in West Ham’s Europa Conference League triumph. His performances have carried both flair and resilience, qualities that endeared him to supporters and turned him into a genuine cult figure.
Cleared of all wrongdoing by an independent commission in July, Paqueta is now considering legal action against the FA. Whatever the outcome, his influence at West Ham is already cemented. This season feels like his farewell tour – a final chance to repay the faith of a club and fanbase who stood firmly in his corner.
