Football game in Arkansas canceled due to a shooting

A high school football game in Arkansas abruptly ended due to a shooting in the stands.

The incident occurred during halftime of a game between Benton and North Little Rock, the home team. Benton was leading 24-7 when there was a report of a gunshot, with North Little Rock School District officials confirming the shooting occurred outside of the stadium on the visitor’s side.

According to Benton Public Schools officials, a parent of one of the players was struck by a bullet in the bleachers and was transported to a local hospital.

The game was then canceled at that point.

“All students and staff are safe,” Benton Public Schools said in a statement. “Those in attendance are either riding home with their parents or being loaded onto district buses for transport home.

“We are working closely with local authorities and will provide updates as additional information becomes available.”
