The newest Shedeur Sanders rumor isn't even true, says his Cleveland Browns coach

Much ado about nothing.

That's the summary of the latest Shedeur Sanders saga.

A local radio host in Cleveland said this week that the rookie quarterback hasn't even been getting reps on the scout team, and questioned why he was even a member of the Browns.

But on Friday, Browns QB coach Bill Musgrave clarified that that simply isn't true.

Musgrave said all the backup QBs, meaning Sanders, Dillon Gabriel and practice squad Bailey Zappe, take turns with the scout team.

"I'd say it's a little bit different," Musgrave said, via ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi. "It's exciting because those guys do take pride in getting the defense ready. They want to do a good job of replicating the opponent's offense and at the same time, they want to try to relate any play that they get to our game plan for that week too, so they can feel like they can get a little double duty."

Sanders is the QB3 in Cleveland right now.

Gabriel, the third-round pick, is the direct backup to 40-year old Joe Flacco heading into the Week 2 game at the Baltimore Ravens.

Sanders went exactly 50 picks after Gabriel and has been behind him in the pecking order all summer.

Zappe, the fourth quarterback, actually started Week 18 for the Browns in 2024.

The scout team QB can also be chosen based on the style of the upcoming week's quarterback. For example, a Week 2 matchup with Lamar Jackson might lead to a different scout team representative than Week 1's clash with Joe Burrow.

Regardless, it appears the latest hubbub about Sanders wasn't even worth the time, because it wasn't even true.
