Texas A&M Aggies Have High Potential To Beat Out SEC Opponent LSU and Land Five-Star, No. 5 Overall Recruit Lamar Brown

Texas A&M's No. 6 class of 2026 recruits is up to 15 players, but not one of them is ranked as a five-star. The Aggies highest commit currently is cornerback Victor Singleton, a four-star listed at No. 84 overall in the country.

With this latest recruit canceling his visit with an SEC foe, though, Texas A&M may go from a top 100 commit to a top five.

Five-star and No. 5 overall class of 2026 recruit Lamar Brown had his official visit with the Aggies this past weekend. The No. 1 defensive lineman overall in the country and No. 1 recruit out of Louisiana was impressed by Kyle Field and head coach Mike Elko. After the visit, Brown canceled his stop at SEC rival LSU.

Texas A&M and LSU were the final two schools Brown had left on his schedule before declaring his commitment. On June 20, he was set to visit the Tigers, but decided to forgo his original plans.

Of the 33 offers he received, Brown narrowed his decision down to Miami, Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU. Per 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, the Aggies have a 75 percent chance of landing the Baton Rouge native, especially after recent events.

The other 25 percent chance rests with the Tigers. However, it is more than likely that Brown's head has gone from a top four to a top three, excluding LSU.

While listed as a defender, he is considered to be a two-way player given his strength as an interior offensive lineman.

"[Brown] projects as a high-major impact player on either side of the ball. Possesses legitimate high-round NFL Draft potential," Gabe Brooks wrote in his scouting report on the young recruit.

Brown visited Texas A&M twice unofficially in the spring, according to Texas A&M Aggies on SI. So even with LSU having the hometown advantage, College Station was always a serious contender for his four-year home.

Even with defensive lineman Jermaine Kinsler, edge rusher Jordan Carter, and edge rusher Samu Moala (given he does not decommit), the five-star recruit would push Texas A&M's class of 2026 from good to great.

Brown is set to declare his commitment on July 10.
