Steelers' kicker Chris Boswell sets cool Pittsburgh franchise record after 60-yard field goal

Chris Boswell's career renaissance continued last weekend when he drilled a career-long 60-yard field goal to ensure the Pittsburgh Steelers could defeat the New York Jets for a season-opening win.

He was honored by the NFL for that kick, given the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award.

And that was a record-setting honor for Boswell: He's now been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week more than any other player in Steelers history. He now has five such honors, breaking a tie with Jeff Reed, according to TV reporter Missi Matthews.

The Steelers trailed 32-31 when they faced fourth-and-11 just over midfield and called on Boswell to kick.

He didn't miss, and had room to spare on the distance.

"I can't say enough about [Boswell] -- our kicker is a serial killer," head coach Mike Tomlin said postgame.

Boswell has been automatic for the Steelers lately.

He was the best kicker in the NFL last season. He was 41-for-44, with 13-for-15 from beyond 50 yards.

It's been quite the glow-up for Boswell.

In 2022, he made just 20 of his 28 field goal attempts.

But then in 2023, he likely saved his career by going 29-for-31 on his field goals (6-7 from 50-plus).

And then he had his incredible kicking clinic all of last season.

It's quite the run that Boswell is on, that's for sure.
