Palestinians say many killed by Israeli strikes focussed on Gaza City

Dozens of people have been killed in Israeli attacks on targets in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical sources said on Friday, with many of the deaths in Gaza City.

Thirty-five people were killed since the morning, most of them in the north of Gaza City, the sources said. The information could not be independently verified.

One airstrike in the north of Gaza City alone was said to have killed 14 people in a house.

Many people were still buried under the rubble, according to the uncorroborated reports.

The Israeli military said it would investigate.

Meanwhile, an army spokesman published a list of all areas to which the inhabitants of Gaza City can flee, as Israeli prepares an operation to control the city.

These include Nuseirat and Deir al-Balah in the centre of the Gaza Strip, as well as several neighbourhoods of Khan Younis in the south of the Palestinian territory.

The Israeli military says it is taking action against the Palestinian militia Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza City while striving to avoid civilian deaths.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are instructed to leave the Gaza Strip's largest city before it is brought under Israeli control.

However, aid organizations warn that this will further exacerbate the already catastrophic conditions faced by the civilian population.
