British renewable energy company Octopus Energy is expanding its electric vehicle leasing business, Octopus Electric Vehicles (Octopus EV), to Germany.
Having already established a presence in Germany with more than 800,000 customers, Octopus Energy aims to enhance EV adoption with a comprehensive package.
The package includes vehicle leasing and home charger installation, access to its Octopus Electroverse roaming service, and an energy-efficient tariff.
The company’s Intelligent Octopus smart tariff is said to help German drivers save up to €450 ($527) annually by charging during off-peak, cheaper, and greener times.
Octopus EV founder and director Fiona Howarth said: “Germany is a powerhouse in the automotive industry, and the home of some of our most-loved EV brands.
“With shared values around great technology and reliable, trusted service, we wanted our European debut to be in Germany. Our offer takes the stress out of going electric – we make it simple, affordable, and green.
“Together with Octopus Energy, we’re bringing German customers cutting-edge technology, the cheapest green power, and the chance to be part of the energy system of the future.”
Established in the UK in 2018, Octopus EV has helped more than 35,000 UK drivers transition to EVs and seeks to replicate its success in Germany.
The company plans to introduce vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology in Germany, which is already used in the UK to supply power back to the grid during peak demand.
It is also collaborating with EV manufacturer BYD on the 'Power Pack Bundle' in the UK, which enables drivers to effectively charge their vehicles at no cost.
Octopus EV is expected to commence its operations in the German market by early 2026, with services available through online registration.
