Israel's Katz announces more attacks on state targets in Iran

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz has instructed the military to ramp up its attacks in Iran and increasingly aim at government-related targets in the capital Tehran.

In this way, the "regime" is to be destabilized, Katz said on Friday.

State symbols were to be attacked and a comprehensive evacuation of the population of Tehran brought about, he added.

Katz also announced his intention to continue hitting facilities and scientists associated with the Iranian nuclear programme.

Israel's declared war aim is to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and missiles. However, the minister has hinted repeatedly that Israel could be pursuing other goals.

On Thursday, he warned Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that he "could not continue to exist" following that day's missile strike on an Israeli hospital in Beersheba.

A few days earlier, an Israeli airstrike targeted the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB during a live programme.

According to the broadcaster, there were deaths and injuries. Israel's military said the attack was aimed at a "communications centre of the Iranian regime."

A video of the broadcast during the attack was widely shared on social media.
