Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip are not in line with the principles established for its close cooperation with the European Union, according to an internal EU review shared with member states, dpa learnt from diplomats on Friday.
The EU-Israel Association Agreement sets out basic principles for the relationship between the two parties, including that their relations are based on respect for human rights.
The Netherlands was one of several countries that charged that Israel has been violating this fundamental principle in its conduct in the Gaza war.
Intensive discussions on the partnership agreement with Israel had already taken place last year at the initiative of Spain and Ireland.
