Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim opens up about playing in the minor leagues

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Hyeseong Kim to a three-year, $12.5 million deal back in January. The club was excited about his elite defense, offensive ability, and speed on the basepaths.

Unfortunately, he would struggle early, especially at the plate. He was having a hard time adjusting to the uptick in velocity, and the club tried to overhaul his swing.

Trying to give him time for the adjustments and to build up his confidence, he began the season in Triple-A. However, he would be called up in May and, aside from his injury status, has remained with the big-league club.

But his chance at playing in the postseason is slim. According to the Orange County Register's Bill Plunkett, manager Dave Roberts has concerns about his ability to hit left-handed pitchers.

This is not the role that Hyeseong Kim envisioned himself being in when he signed his deal back in January. Despite that, he understands he is still an important member of the club, and he will fall into whatever role is put in front of him.

"Just like any player would say, getting a chance to play every day would obviously be ideal," said Kim. "But understanding my role – each player has a different role on the roster. So understanding that, I just prepare if I get a chance to play."

Hyeseong Kim could be a key contributor for the Dodgers in the future, but not now. There are tons of things to be excited about with him, and he could have a bright future in the league if he continues to adjust to big-league pitching.
