Cubs recall top prospect in Saturday roster move

The Chicago Cubs recalled top prospect Owen Caissie from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday morning, according to Marquee Sports Network's Elise Menaker.

The Cubs optioned outfielder Kevin Alcántara in a corresponding move. Alcántara is the Cubs' No. 5 prospect, per MLB.com, and the two outfielders have flipped between Triple-A Iowa and the Cubs throughout this season.

On Sept. 1, the Cubs optioned Caissie and called up Alcántara for his first action in 2025. Now, the Cubs' No. 5 prospect will head back to Triple-A and Caissie will return to the Cubs.

Cubs Recall Owen Caissie

Caissie made his major league debut for the Cubs on Aug. 14, but struggled to consistently produce at the plate in his first 11 games.

The Cubs' top prospect hit .208 with a .635 OPS. However, he did have a stretch where he was 4-for-9 with 4 RBI, two runs scored, and his first career home run.

At Triple-A Iowa, Caissie has raked this season. The outfielder has hit .286 with a .937 OPS, 22 home runs and 55 RBI.

As for Alcántara, he's played in just three games with six at-bats since his call-up. The Cubs' No. 5 prospect was 1-for-6 with a walk and three strikeouts.

Similar to Caissie, Alcántara has had a strong season in Triple-A, hitting .266 with an .819 OPS, 17 home runs and 69 RBI.

With outfielder Kyle Tucker on the injured list, and Seiya Suzuki dealing with an illness, Caissie could get the start in right field for the Cubs on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays.
