Yankees' Trent Grisham gets $48 million contract update after reports suggest he'll depart New York

It's only fair to wonder, with all the outfielders the New York Yankees already have and those coming up in their farm system, if they're willing to give Trent Grisham as much money as he's looking to receive.

It remains uncertain just how much Grisham could get in free agency, but some believe that he's a lock to leave.

According to Greg Joyce of the New York Post, he doesn't expect him to return because of the Yankees' outfield situation.

Will Trent Grisham leave the Yankees?

"Aaron Judge will presumably — barring his elbow injury turning into something that needs surgery — be back in right field next season," Joyce wrote. "Jasson Domínguez has lost his grip on everyday playing time this month, but he is still likely to be back in left field next year.

"Cody Bellinger is playing well enough that he is expected to exercise his opt-out and join Grisham on the free-agent market, though it would not be surprising to see the Yankees try to make a bid to retain him."

Now, there's still an argument to be made that if the Yankees can land Grisham at the price they want, they have to figure out a deal. There isn't an outfielder out there who could be somewhat cheap and can potentially hit 30-plus home runs like he's shown to be able to do this season, growing on trees.

Spotrac recently predicted what he could sign for, predicting him to land a $47.6 million deal over four seasons.

At less than $12 million AAV, that's a deal the Yankees would have to make.

Nonetheless, there's a lot that has to play out over the next few months, but Grisham is set to get paid, so the Yankees shouldn't take it lightly if they want to keep him around.
