Today’s Lineups: No Davis Schneider

The Astros have placed Luis Garcia on the IL with elbow discomfort. You have to feel for the guy, just back from recovering from Tommy John surgery. The guy can’t buy a break. It is bad timing for him, as he’s not under contract for next season.

Tonight’s lineups. Jose Altuve is sitting. I’m wondering if it is a result of the lack of hustle in the 10th inning yesterday. I’m sure they won’t say that. But then Altuve isn’t hitting at all this month, .121/.216/.273. It is only eight games, but add that to the lack of effort yesterday, and it seems like a good idea to sit him.

No Davis Schneider. I’d put him in for Nathan Lukes if I was running things. It isn’t great to put together a lineup on short hot and cold streaks, but Lukes is hitting .200/.216/.229 over the last two weeks.

I was thinking, earlier today, about who I thought was our MVP. I looked at WAR values on Baseball Reference:

  • 1. Vladimir Guerrero: 4.9
  • 2. George Springer: 3.9
  • 3. Bo Bichette: 3.3
  • 4. Ernie Clement: 3.2
  • 5. Myles Straw: 2.8
  • 6. Daulton Varsho: 2.2
  • 7. Alejandro Kirk: 2.2
  • 8. Tyler Heineman: 1.9

I don’t think WAR is the be-all and end-all for MVP voting.

FanGraphs is a fair bit different:

  • 1. Vlad: 4.3
  • 2. Kirk: 4.2
  • 3. Springer: 4.1
  • 4. B0: 3.8
  • 5. Ernie: 2.6
  • 6. Heineman: 2.1
  • 7. Barger: 2.0
  • 8. Varsho: 1.9

I love seeing the outtake shots from picture day.
