It is no secret that Xabi Alonso will not hesitate to shake things up when it comes to his starting line-up.
The new Real Madrid manager has already shown that reputation and status alone will not guarantee a place in his XI.
A prime example came when he chose to leave Vinicius Jr. out of the starting line-up against Oviedo, a decision that surprisingly worked out well for the team.
Now, with Real Sociedad on the horizon, a fresh report from Defensa Central claims that Alonso plans to continue with the same approach.
This time, new signing Franco Mastantuono is expected to begin on the bench. Instead, the coach could look to Rodrygo or Brahim Diaz as attacking options.
Careful management of minutes
The decision not to start Mastantuono should not be mistaken as a lack of faith.
In fact, Alonso sees the youngster as an important part of the future, but he wants to introduce him step by step.
“Quality minutes without unnecessary pressure” appears to be the coach’s philosophy.

With South American players returning later from international duty compared to their European teammates, squad rotation becomes even more necessary.
Alonso wants to ensure that young legs like Mastantuono’s are not overworked too soon.
Packed with options
At the same time, Real Madrid’s squad is packed with attacking talent. Giving every player a chance to contribute keeps competition high and prevents complacency among the regular starters.
As Alonso has already proven, even the biggest stars cannot take their spots for granted.
This competitive atmosphere could prove to be one of Real Madrid’s greatest strengths this season.
By keeping everyone engaged and motivated, Alonso is ensuring that his players are ready to step up whenever called upon.
For Mastantuono, his time will surely come and it is only a matter of patience and the right moment.
