It's the moment that The Summer I Turned Pretty fans have been dreading: the series finale. On Wednesday, the beloved coming-of-age series, which first premiered in 2021, will come to an end after three summers of pulling at our heartstrings.
Beloved for its array of Taylor Swift needle drops and unapologetic embrace of messy love triangles, the show, which is based on Jenny Han’s trio of novels, follows Isabel “Belly” Conklin (Lola Tung) as she navigates the ups and downs of adolescence and early adulthood — all while yearning over Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney), the boy she grew up with.
The online fandom has also emerged as one of TV’s strongest at the moment. Season 3, especially, has proven that girlhood is alive and well, and can be found watching Belly and Conrad’s love story unfold on the big screen at a neighborhood sports bar.
Below, we're breaking down everything you need to know ahead of the series finale on Wednesday — from how many episodes are expected to drop to who fans think Belly should be with once and for all.
When does the finale air?
The Summer I Turned Pretty finale airs on Wednesday, Sept. 17. It’ll be available to stream on Prime Video starting at 12 a.m. ET.
How many episodes will there be?
Ahead of the Season 3 premiere, the show’s official social media accounts unveiled its episode schedule. The season kicked off on July 16 with two episodes, followed by one new episode each week. Fans are noticing, however, that Sept. 17 merely says “Finale” rather than “Episode 11” — and are believing this to mean that there will be at least two episodes dropping at midnight.
While one fan on X notes that it could just be a case of semantics — “I think it’s finale instead of episode 11 cos it’s ending” — others are holding out for hope that it isn’t the case.
“I really think it might be two episodes! because the actors in their interviews kept saying how much fun the last two episodes were to shoot and ep 10 was not very fun at all lol,” one fan suggested, while another speculated, “I think it says finale instead of episode cause it’s going to be movie length!”
Where did we leave off?
As of now, Belly is living out her Parisian dream. She recently signed a yearlong lease for a gorgeous apartment overlooking the Sacré-Coeur, is presumably going to grad school and has even found romance beyond Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). But as Belly continues to find herself, Conrad remains stuck on her, sending her care packages and love letters galore.
Episode 10 takes us through seven-ish months of Belly’s life — starting around the holidays in November and ending sometime in June. A lot happens during this time frame: Belly and Jeremiah get closure, Jeremiah and Conrad reconcile and Conrad literally books a flight to Paris with zero hesitation.
What are fans hoping for?
It depends on who you ask, but it seems the overwhelming majority are hoping for a Belly and Conrad reunion. After 10 episodes of yearning, the fandom believes that Connie is due for a win.
Perhaps equally as important as a Belly and Conrad endgame is having enough time to watch it all unfold. With less than two days until the finale drops, fans are hoping for either two episodes or a full-length film to close out the series. One TikTok creator has even theorized that there will be three additional episodes because of Han’s supposed use of numerology. Fourteen, the creator argued, frequently comes up this season — whether it’s a graphic on Belly’s sweatshirt, Conrad’s gate at the airport or a certain aisle at Michael’s.
“Stop everyone is getting my hopes up,” one fan commented.
“We’re so delusional,” another added.
