Week 3 opening odds: Lions road underdogs at Ravens on MNF

The Detroit Lions will be back on the road in Week 3, traveling to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on “Monday Night Football”, and the folks over at FanDuel Sportsbook have Detroit as the underdogs, with the opening betting line set at Lions +5.5 points.

The Lions responded to a lackluster Week 1 performance against the Green Bay Packers (27-13) by taking Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears to the woodshed (52-21). The Lions struggled in almost every facet of their game in Week 1, and didn’t score a touchdown until the final minutes of the game. In Week 2, the Lions scored seven touchdowns, including three by All-Pro Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Lions finally looked like themselves, and Detroit fans surely left Ford Field feeling a lot better about their team on Sunday.

Despite their dominance, the Lions remain very firm underdogs in this matchup, and that’s likely because the Ravens have looked strong on offense, putting up at least 40 points in each of their first two games. So, while the Ravens did collapse in the fourth quarter against the Bills—blowing a 15-point lead and eventually losing 41-40—they still put on a very solid offensive performance. Then, in Week 2, they followed it up by winning in multiple phases over the Browns, taking home a 41-17 victory.

While both teams are coming off very impressive Week 2 performances, there is also a bit of history that could be at play in this betting line. The last time these two teams met in Baltimore, the Ravens dominated the Lions 38-6, in a game where Detroit’s defense had no answer for quarterback Lamar Jackson.
