Magomed Ankalaev vs. Alex Pereira 2 is on.
At Friday’s official weigh-ins for UFC 320 in Las Vegas, Ankalaev and Pereira were early to hit the scale and both did so successfully 204.5 pounds. They are set to rematch for Ankalaev’s light heavyweight title, which he won from Pereira at UFC 313 this past March.
The bantamweight title co-main event is also official with champion Merab Dvalishvili weighing in at 135 pounds and challenger Cory Sandhagen coming in at 134.5 pounds. Dvalishvili seeks his third consecutive title defense after wins over Sean O’Malley and Umar Nurmagomedov earlier this year.
One fighter failed to make weight, bantamweight veteran Macy Chiasson. The last fighter to weigh in, Chiasson came in at 137.5 pounds (1.5 pounds over the limit for a non-title bout). She forfeits 25 percent of her purse as penalty to opponent Yana Santos and their bout proceeds at a catchweight.
Weight-cut weirdness seems to follow Chiasson, who once won a season of The Ultimate Fighter as a featherweight. Past opponents Ketlen Vieira, Norma Dumont, and Aspen Ladd all had weight-cutting issues for bouts with Chiasson, and Chiasson herself missed weight at 145 pounds when she stepped in on short notice to fight Raquel Pennington in December 2021.
Santos did not take the miss lightly.
“Imagine signing a contract and showing up overweight again,” Santos wrote on Twitter. “Some of us respect the grind. Others disrespect the sport.”
Outside of Chiasson, all the fighters competing on Saturday’s 14-fight card successfully made weight.
