Tottenham say club ‘not for sale’ and reject two takeover approaches

The board of Tottenham Hotspur said it has turned down two bids to buy the club and insisted the London outfit is not for sale.
The announcement from the Lilywhites came on Sunday after Daniel Levy left his role as the club’s chairman last week.
Levy held the position since 2001 but he was asked to leave by the club’s majority shareholders, the Lewis family.
It led to speculation that a takeover bid could be imminent, with former Newcastle United joint-owner Amanda Staveley linked with an interest in acquiring the club.
However, in a statement, Tottenham’s board confirmed its owner has ‘unequivocally rejected’ two bids in buying Spurs and that it is ‘not for sale.’
“The Board of the Club and ENIC confirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC has no intention to accept any such offer to acquire its interest in the Club,” the statement said.
Levy was the Premier League’s longest-serving chairman, remaining in charge of Tottenham for over 24 years.
But he was also the target of regular protests from the supporters, who were not happy with his approach of prioritising financial stability over on-field success.
Tottenham won the Europa League in May by beating Manchester United in the final, but it was their first trophy in 17 years.
Ange Postecoglou had led the club to European success, but the Australian boss was removed from his position by Levy in the summer.
Now the English businessman himself has been dismissed, with the Lewis family agreeing it was time for change to push for more success on the pitch.
