The Detroit Tigers signed Gleyber Torres to a one-year, $15 million deal ahead of the 2025 season, and he has been a key contributor to the team's success this year. Across 128 games, the slugger is hitting .259/.362/.396 with 15 home runs and 66 runs batted in.
Detroit holds an 8.5-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians, well on their way to another postseason berth. However, the Tigers may have to make the most of Torres' time with the club this season as he could be playing elsewhere in 2026.
Fansided's Mark Powell recently came out with a list of players who will be playing for a new team next season. In it, he predicts Torres will chase a multiyear contract with somebody other than Detroit.
"Torres will seach for a multiyear contract this winter, and it's unlikely to come with the Tigers unless he lowers his price tag," said Powell. Working in Detroit's favor is that Torres has slowed the past few months, but Scott Harris is a big believer in the Tigers' farm system, so he will not fret about letting a veteran like Gleyber walk if his asking price is too high."

There will be plenty of teams interested in Gleyber Torres' services after this season. He has proved himself in a big way, making his first All-Star Game appearance since the 2019 season. According to Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter, he predicts that the San Diego Padres will be Torres' next team.
"The versatility of Jake Cronenworth means they can also target a second baseman, and Gleyber Torres would slot nicely into the middle of their lineup."
