Three Takeaways From No. 2 Penn State’s 52-6 Victory Over Villanova

Penn State used another second half surge to put away Villanova. This time around, however, they went into the half up three scores. Here are your takeaways.

You know the saying. Two is a coincidence, three is a pattern. The Lions have two weeks to address the slow starts, because Oregon will not happily comply.

There’s something to be said about feeling the pressure of expectations, but that pressure is not going anywhere the rest of the season. Better get accustomed to playing with it moving forward. Andy Kotelnicki said last week that Drew Allar was overthinking things, and you saw his performance improve as the offense went uptempo.

Maybe less time to think is the answer.

The defense, on the other hand, seems to have not skipped a beat through three weeks. Villanova did not cross midfield until the 2:42 mark in the first half. They played a near perfect game, the only blemish was the long run in the drive where Villanova first crossed midfield. They played in Penn State territory twice in the whole game.

Let’s see if that trend continues against the better opponents on the schedule.

3) Second half team, part three?

The Lions yet again shook off the rust in the second half, reminding us of both 2016, and a little bit of 2024. Now, let’s hope we get more of the 2016 explosion throughout the full game.

If you had Penn Sate -48.5, I’m really sorry.
