Several big milestones in play ahead of 25-26 season

As the 2025-2026 NHL season is less than 2 weeks away from puck drop, a storyline to watch all season will be what some of the top players of this generation can accomplish.

Several big name players like Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane to share a few are playing in the back 9 of their career's. It will be fun to watch and see what these players can do as they look to end on a high note.

Other players in the prime of their career's are already on the precipice of greatness. Here are some key point milestones on the horizon to watch this year from some of the legacy players in the game of hockey.

Players on the verge of reaching significant milestones

1700 points

Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins is just 13 away from crossing the 1,700 point barrier. His respected Washington Capitals rival Alex Ovechkin is 77 away.

1400 points

Evgeni Malkin, lifelong teammate and sidekick of Crosby with the Pens, is just 54 points away from amassing 1,400. The Detroit Red Wings' Patrick Kane is right behind "Geno" being 57 short.

1300 points

Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings is only 22 points away from the 1,300 threshold as he plays what will be his final NHL season.

1200 points

Steven Stamkos of the Nashville Predators stands just 10 points away from the 1,200 mark. Claude Giroux of the Ottawa Senators will have a trickier time passing this benchmark as he draws 84 points away. The Toronto Maple Leafs' John Tavares is in Giroux's mirrors at 86 behind.

1100 points

Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers is just 18 away from achieving this mark. If he were to record another 100 points on top of that, he will pass the 1,200 mark as well. Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche is 85 points away, which does not appear like much for him.

1000 points

Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning is a measly 6 points away from the vaunted 1,000 points. If he were to record another 100 points in addition to that, he will pass 1,100 points too. Brad Marchand of the Florida Panthers is shy by 20. Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars draws 44 away. And lastly Leon Draisaitl, McDavid's partner in Oilers crime, is 44 points away as well.
