The Philadelphia Phillies are manhandling their competition in the NL East this year, and one reason is because of slugging designated hitter/left fielder Kyle Schwarber.
Schwarber recently hit the 50-home run mark for the first time in his career and is continuing to keep his name in the NL MVP conversation.
And good news for Phillies fans, the good times could keep rolling into next year, even as Schwarber tests the free agent waters in the upcoming offseason.
Schwarber Is Interested in Returning to Philadelphia
Schwarber talked with Jon Heyman of the New York Post, and his comments regarding his free agency status was definitely promising.
"If something works out here, it works out here. There's interest on both sides," Schwarber told Jon Heyman of the New York Post. "I'm sure whenever we get to the end of the year, and hopefully it's us holding a trophy at the end, I'm sure there'll be conversations.
And even David Dombrowski, the Phillies' president of baseball relations, has keeping "Schwarbs" on the team high on his to-do list.
"We want to retain him now, and we wanted to retain him then," Dombrowski told Heyman.
Schwarber still sits at 50 home runs, with a .242 batting average and an MLB-leading 123 runs batted in.
