Panic time? Chiefs in free fall in latest power rankings

The Kansas City Chiefs, as odd as it is to say, are perhaps facing their most important game in recent memory when they tackle the plucky New York Giants in Week 3.

After starting the season 0-2 for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era, coupled with the stuttering and spluttering of the offense, Kansas City looks like a team that is there for the taking.

Yes, both losses have been by one score, but in both, the Chiefs looked anything but a team that we have come to know over the years.

There are many skeptics of Andy Reid's team right now, and for NFL.com's Eric Edholm, in his latest power rankings, the Chiefs, perhaps for the first time ever under Mahomes, are out of the top 10, coming in at No. 11.

“There’s legitimate concern over the state of the offense, even if Xavier Worthy is able to return this week against the Giants,” Edholm writes. “But the Ravens, Jaguars and Lions are up after the G-Men, and everyone’s coming for the kings, even if they were already dethroned.”

Too early to write off Chiefs?

Some already have, I'm not there yet, but losing to the Giants, and maybe a serious conversation needs to be had.

At MetLife Stadium, the Chiefs will have to get a win by any means necessary because while being 0-2 isn't the end of the world from a playoff perspective, being 0-3 is an entirely different ball game.

Yes, the Chiefs have Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Reid, and a stout defense, but things aren't clicking as they once were, and many wonder if Kansas City can stay afloat until reinforcements arrive.

The once-dominant team of the NFL appears to be showing signs that they aren't that team anymore, and if they lose to the Giants, that will only be confirmed.
