The New Orleans Saints have possibly the worst roster in the league and just lost to a middling Arizona Cardinals team at home. They now take on a depleted 49ers team in another home game where they’re underdogs, this time +3 against Mac Jones instead of Brock Purdy.
One good thing that came out of Week 1 for the Saints was tight end Juwan Johnson, who caught 8-of-11 for 76 yards, while playing almost all of the snaps. The 49ers matchup isn’t a great one, but we just don’t get this kind of workload from tight ends not named Trey McBride. Johnson led the league in targets and receptions for tight ends and led in PPR fantasy points. We’ll need to see how sticky these target numbers are, but at this point there’s no reason to think he’s coming off the field for anyone else while Foster Moreau is out.
Below, we’ll go over Juwan Johnson’s outlook in fantasy football for Week 2.
Fantasy Football analysis: Saints, TE, Juwan Johnson
Johnson is good enough to be a fantasy player with the usage he’s seeing and as long as he stays near the top of the target tree. And it seems Spencer Rattler has him as his go-to guy.
Start or sit in Week 2 PPR leagues?
Start. Until Johnson shows a lower fantasy floor, he should be a must start in PPR leagues.
Start or sit in Week 2 standard leagues?
Start. Johnson will need to continue to see good target numbers in standard leagues to be a must start, as his touchdown upside will be low in New Orleans. But as it is, I’m fine with starting him this week.
