Bestselling author Colleen Hoover revealed the release date and cover of her upcoming novel, Woman Down, on the Today show Wednesday morning, calling it “one of the darkest books I’ve written so far.”

The new book will be released on Jan. 13, 2026, via Amazon Publishing, and is available for preorder now on Amazon. Hoover is well-known for her bestselling titles, such as It Ends With Us, Verity, Ugly Love and Reminders of Him. She has sold over 35 million copies worldwide as of September 2024.

Woman Down is about an author who goes to a remote cabin to find creative inspiration for her next suspense novel, when a detective shows up and starts to “blur the lines between fantasy and reality,” according to the Amazon Publishing press release.

This will be Hoover’s first new release since Too Late in 2023 and the It Ends with Us prequel, It Starts with Us, in 2022. Hoover has consistently published one or two books a year since 2012, making this the longest gap between new releases.

“I just want to say a quick thank you for being so patient and supportive,” she said on the Today show, addressing her fans. “This one took me a while to finally get another book out for you, but I’m excited for you guys to read it.”

Hoover’s literary rise: From BookTok to screen

Hoover’s popularity skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic, largely driven by TikTok’s “BookTok” community, the New York Times reported. Her bestseller It Ends with Us was adapted into a movie starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in August 2024 — a transition she said was “overwhelming” and “surreal” in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter.

“I think they did such a good job condensing this book into a film,” she told the outlet. “I’m very happy with this adaptation.”

It Ends with Us has continued to be in the press recently due to an ongoing legal battle between the film’s two leads.

Three of Hoover’s other novels have also been adapted for the screen: Regretting You, set to hit theaters on Oct. 24; Verity, which has wrapped production; and Reminders of Him, currently in development.
