Internationals: Kobel keeps a clean sheet
Gregor Kobel helped Switzerland to a 3-0 (3-0) victory against Slovenia. The Dortmund goalie kept a clean sheet at St.-Jakob-Park in Basel, impressing with a stunning second-half save to keep out a deflected shot from Benjamin Sesko which he turned onto the post and then behind for a corner (65). With two wins from two matches, the Switzerland national team currently sit atop Group B ahead of Kosovo, Sweden and Slovenia.
In the same group, Daniel Svensson and Sweden suffered a 2-0 (2-0) defeat at the hands of Kosovo. The Dortmund full-back played the opening half of the away match and made way for Ken Sema in the second period, by which point the hosts were already leading 2-0. Sweden occupy third place in Group B with one point from two games.
Serhou Guirassy and Guinea were already playing the eighth match of their World Cup qualifying campaign on Tuesday evening – the African teams started the qualification process before their European counterparts, with six teams in each group. They could only manage a 0-0 draw against Algeria, for whom Borussia player Ramy Bensebaini was missing due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Algeria are in pole position in Group G with 19 points, while Guinea are fourth out of six with 11 points on the board.
