How to watch Aces at Sparks: Vegas looking for 16th straight win, A’ja Wilson aims for MVP

The Las Vegas Aces were 13-13 when they last touched down on Figueroa Street. It wasn’t all that long ago (July 29), but Becky Hammon’s perennial contenders were somehow struggling to stay in the fray, and reigning MVP A’ja Wilson looked particularly frustrated by the underperformance.

Vegas won that night, and turned a road run into an inflection point. Come Thursday, the Aces will go for their 16th straight win and the postseason’s No. 2 seed. The Los Angeles Sparks host this game with a lot of pride on the line — not just to close out their 2025 efforts, but to preserve the franchise’s WNBA record for consecutive Ws.

The longest winning streak in league history still belongs to the 2001 Sparks, who reeled off 18 victories in a row. They were captained by Lisa Leslie and went on to win their first championship versus Dawn Staley’s Charlotte Sting. If the Aces win Thursday, they’d match the 2014 Phoenix Mercury for the second-longest streak. Yes, that team also won the Finals — Diana Taurasi led a 3-0 sweep of the Chicago Sky.

Adjust your eyes and stretch for the inevitable double-take you’re about to do, because here are some Aces stat lines since that last L.A. trip to close July:

Aja Wilson is averaging around 26 points and 11 rebounds, plus 1.6 steals and 2.1 blocks, on absurd 53.3/57.7/88.1 shooting splits.

Jackie Young is making two 3s per game (39.1 percent); Jewell Loyd is up to 2.5 (40.2).

Two Aces are averaging more than six dimes: Young (6.1) and Chelsea Gray (6.7). Those marks would both be good for top-four spots on the league-wide assist board this year.

Just for fun: Wilson, Loyd, Young and Gray are all putting up about 1.5 steals per game, too.

Wilson is slightly favored over Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier for MVP honors, -125 to -105 on BetMGM. Las Vegas owns a tiebreaker against the Atlanta Dream, the other team competing for the second seed. It would secure that spot with a win Thursday.

Los Angeles overcame a disastrous start to the season, and found a late groove with the league’s fastest offense. The team continuously struggled to get stops, though, and enter Thursday’s action with a surprising 9-12 home record.

If nothing else, the Sparks can challenge the Aces with pace and fearlessness. They just beat a balanced and formidable Mercury group in the desert Tuesday, and they’ve topped 80 points in five of their last six tries. All-Star point guard Kelsey Plum and elite scoring big Dearica Hamby should find ample motivation to close out strong against their former team.

We’ve been doing this exercise throughout the year with different matchups, and this has to be one of the best teams assembled.
