German Economy Minister Katharina Reiche on Tuesday announced that the country's gas supply security plan has been downgraded from the second, "alert" stage to the first.
The alert stage was introduced in June 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent halt in Russian gas deliveries. Reiche said Germany’s gas supplies are now secure.
Under the national Gas Emergency Plan, there are three levels, with the third representing a full-scale emergency. Germany has now moved from the second stage—the alert level—to the first stage, known as the early warning level.
The alert level is triggered when there is a disruption to gas supplies or exceptionally high demand that significantly worsens the supply situation.
