Hiker Told Her Mother ‘I’m Not Afraid of Much’ in Final Text Before Falling from Volcano

A 26-year-old woman's final text message to her mom before she died after falling from a volcano while hiking has been revealed.

Juliana Marins, a tourist from Brazil, was found dead after the May incident in Indonesia. In texts sent to her mother at the start of her trip, obtained by Brazilian news program Fantástico, Marins shared her love for her family and said she wasn't afraid of anything life sent her way.

"Mami, I love you so much. I was heartbroken when we said goodbye," Marins said in a message that was translated by The Sun.

"In fact, that’s the only thing that worries me: letting you, papi or my sister be disappointed. Other than that, I’m not afraid of much, much less trouble," Marins continued.

“I was raised by a woman who can solve any problem and who is not afraid to take the plunge and go after her dreams. I am like that too. I have different desires and dreams," she wrote. "I love you all very much! And I will always be grateful for all the support, care and affection. That is what makes me not afraid."

Marins fell from a cliff around Cemara Nunggal on route to the peak of Mount Rinjani on the Indonesian island of Lombok, the morning of June 21, PEOPLE previously reported.

Rescuers tried to evacuate Marins for multiple days. Gunung Rinjani National Park stated on Facebook on Monday, June 23, that Marins had been "successfully monitored using a drone, in a position stuck on a rock cliff at a depth of 500 meters and visually motionless."

news release from the national park stated that attempts to rescue Marins had been difficult due to inclement weather and dangerous terrain near the volcano.

Authorities announced on June 24 that her body had been found.

"After four days of work, made difficult by adverse weather, ground and visibility conditions in the region, teams from the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency found the body of the Brazilian tourist," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil said in a translated statement.

Marins’ family created an Instagram account to track efforts of her recovery, where they confirmed her death after her body was discovered.

"Today, the rescue team managed to reach the place where Juliana Marins was," they wrote in a translated message. "With immense sadness, we inform you that she did not survive. We remain very grateful for all the prayers, messages of affection and support that we have received."

The day after her death, Marins' family accused the rescue team sent to save her of "negligence," alleging in a social media post shared on June 25, and later reported by Brazilian broadcaster TV Globo, "If the team had reached her within the estimated time of 7 hours, Juliana would still be alive."

"Juliana deserved much more! Now we are going to seek justice for her, because that is what she deserves! Don't give up on Juliana!" her family stated.
