German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is to hold talks in the Latvian capital Riga on Tuesday, bringing his three-day trip to the Baltic region to a conclusion.
Steinmeier is set to meet Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Prime Minister Evika Siliņa, with discussions to focus on the security situation in the region amid the Russian war in Ukraine.
The German president visited Lithuania on Sunday for celebrations of the country's national day, where he offered support for Vilnius in its defence against the Russian threat.
The Baltic States - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia - fear they could become the next victims of Russian President Vladimir Putin's imperialist aims.
The three countries are members of both the European Union and NATO.
Alongside his Latvian counterpart, Steinmeier is due to visit the Braunschweig, a German corvette currently moored in Riga harbour as it is taking part in the US-led Baltic Operations exercise.
