Derry draw at Drogheda to postpone Rovers title celebrations

Derry City drew 1-1 away to Drogheda United on Friday night to move into second place in the League of Ireland Premier Division and just about keep the title race alive.

Shamrock Rovers beat Bohemians 2-1 and enjoy a 12-point lead over the Candystripes who have played one game more.

Dare Kareem gave Drogheda the lead in the 39th minute, with Danny Mullen levelling eight minutes into the second half to secure a point and postpone Rovers' title celebrations.

The Dublin outfit are on the brink of a fifth league triumph in six seasons.

Kareem fired home first time after defender Conor Keeley had headed down a free-kick into his path.

The hosts could have extended their lead four minutes after the interval when Josh Thomas bore down on goal but Mark Connolly intervened before he could get a shot in.

Mullen equalised when he reacted quickest to shoot home the rebound after Luke Dennison had saved an initial shot.

Connolly then cleared off the goal-line after Warren Davis poked the ball towards the net, while Dennison saved from Mullen at his near post.

Dennison also denied Michael Duffy's free-kick and Maher distinguished himself with a stop from Andrew Quinn.
