Chiefs-49ers trade proposal adds $11 million wide receiver in wake of Xavier Worthy injury

The Kansas City Chiefs have a wide receiver problem going into their Week 2 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Kansas City started out the year without Rashee Rice because of his suspension, and without fifth-round pick Jalen Royals because of injury. Then, in the Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, Xavier Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder.

For now, Kansas City will have to rely on Marquise Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Tyquan Thornton to pick up the slack. For a team with legit Super Bowl aspirations, that's just not good enough.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox has a suggestion for the Chiefs to bring in more help and it involves a trade with the San Francisco 49ers for wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

Chiefs-49ers trade proposal

Here's the proposal:

  • Chiefs get: WR Jauan Jennings
  • 49ers get: 2026 4th-round pick, 2027 5th-round pick

Jennings was the subject of trade talk this offseason after he requested to be dealt following the two sides failing to get a contract extension done.

However, Jennings and San Fran ultimately agreed to a reworked deal that gives the veteran wide receiver an opportunity to make $3 million extra in incentives in the final year of his contract.

That said, there remains a possibility that Jennings could get dealt this year if the 49ers struggle ahead of the trade deadline.

The Tennessee product emerged as one of the 49ers' top targets in what was a career year for him in 2024. Jennings finished with career-highs in receptions (77), receiving yards (975) and touchdowns (six).

He would immediately slot in as one of the Chiefs' top targets upon his arrival.

We tend to believe that Knox's proposal is too much for Jennings considering he's going to be a free agent in 2026. A simple fourth-round pick should be more than enough to get it done.

The Niners aren't likely to trade Jennings now because of their own injury issues at wide receiver, but he's someone the Chiefs should be keeping an eye on for a possible deal down the road.
