🚑 Bundesliga: three ligament tears in 18 months for Kilian

Cologne has suffered another setback, although it’s not an unfamiliar situation for them: their center-back Luca Kilian has once again torn the cruciate ligament in his right knee.

This is the third injury of this kind he has suffered in just a year and a half.

The 26-year-old defender suffered the recurring injury again during a training session, and it happened by accident, without any contact from a teammate, which immediately set off alarm bells at the club. An MRI confirmed the worst prognosis: another tear and several months out of action.

A terrifying track record

Kilian had already suffered a similar injury in March 2024 and another in December of the same year with the under-21 reserves. Despite progress in his recovery, his return to the pitch will have to wait.

“It’s incredibly bitter that he has suffered such a serious injury for the third time,” lamented Thomas Kessler, Cologne’s football director.

Kilian’s contract with Cologne runs until the summer of 2026, but his return is not expected until well into next year.
