Blue Jays Roundup: Softball goes against Legacy Tuesday

BISMARCK — Maddie Hoff had Bismarck Legacy scared on Tuesday.

Hoff, a sophomore pitcher for the Jamestown High School softball team, was dominant in the circle, ringing up 10 Ks in her seven innings pitched.

The Blue Jays defeated the Sabers 5-3 in game No. 1 of the doubleheader. Game No. 2 was delayed when The Jamestown Sun went to press. Legacy was leading the Jays 11-9 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the circle, Hoff surrendered four hits and three runs and walked three. At the plate, Hoff went 2-for-3 earning two doubles and drove in two.

Legacy opened the scoring in the second inning after Piper Freborg doubled and drove in two but the Blue Jays took the lead, 3-2, in the top of the fifth thanks to doubles by Megan Jarrett and Avery Graves.

Graves drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Jays with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 3-for-4 and notched a pair of doubles.

Golf places second, Dillman, Gegelman tie for fifth

Everything seemed to be going right for the Blue Jay boys golf team on Tuesday.

Led by seniors Jace Dillman and Hunter Gegelman, the Jays wound up tying for second place at the Mandan Invite. Jamestown and Williston both notched team scores of 304. Minot North won the invite with a score of 297.

Gegelman and Dillman both shot a 2-over-74 to tie for fifth place overall. The senior duo were two of four Blue Jay golfers who scored in the 70s. Vaughn Romsdal and Luke LeFevre finished the round with a 77 and 79 respectively. Griffin Gegelman shot an 85 while Nate Walz finished with a 95.

The Jays will be back in action on Friday, hosting the Jamestown Invite at the Jamestown Country Club. Tee times are set for 10 a.m.
