Barcelona could host Getafe at Estadi Johan Cruyff as reserve team game rescheduled

FC Barcelona will play their first home game of the new season this weekend when they host Valencia.

While the initial plan was for the match to take place at Spotify Camp Nou, the Catalans failed to obtain the required licences, and as such, it will now be played at Estadi Johan Cruyff – where the reserve team and Barça Femeni play.

Barcelona to host Getafe at Estadi Johan Cruyff?

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, there may be a possibility that Barcelona host Getafe in their next home game, scheduled for 21 September, at Estadi Johan Cruyff as well. This comes after Barça Atletic’s league game against Castellon B was rescheduled.

Rafael Alonso, Judge of Non-Professional Competitions of the RFEF, has ruled that the Barça Atletic-Castellon B fixture, corresponding to the third matchday of Group 3 in the Segunda RFEF, will be played on Monday, 22 September 2025, at 19:00.

This justification was put forward by Barcelona, as noted in Alonso’s resolution. On Wednesday, 10 September, the RFEF issued a statement outlining two possible dates:

• Sunday 21 September at 18:00, if the first team did not use Estadi Johan Cruyff.
• Monday 22 September at 19:00, if the first team did use the stadium.

Following that, yesterday, Barcelona formally submitted a document to the RFEF confirming:

• Statement regarding the schedule and venue of the first team’s match in the fifth round of La Liga.
• The impracticality of using Barça Atletic’s alternative pitch (Field 7 at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper).
• The agreement reached with Castellon B, along with written confirmation from the visiting club and supporting documents, including diagrams of the locations and access routes for both the main and alternative venues.

As a consequence of this, Judge Alonso noted in his ruling: “Both clubs, by mutual agreement on 5 September, requested that, in the event the first team’s fifth-round match of La Liga is played at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, authorisation be granted for the Barça Atletic vs CD Castellon B match, corresponding to the third round of Group 3 in the Segunda Federación, to be played on Monday 22 September 2025 at 19:00 in the same main venue of the home team (Estadi Johan Cruyff).”

It must be noted that Barcelona also have the option of playing the game against Getafe at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, considering that they have an agreement to use the Montjuic stadium until February 2026.

The venue was ruled out for the Valencia match due to a concert taking place there today, two days before the game.
