AS Monaco’s Aleksandr Golovin suffers injury blow

It appears an injury to one of AS Monaco’s key attacking contributors is more serious than originally thought.
As per AFP, Aleksandr Golovin (29) could miss up to a month for the Principality club, having been omitted from their 2-1 win over AJ Auxerre last weekend.
This news comes after manager Adi Hütter said after that match that the Russian was only left out as a precaution.
Additional tests on him this week revealed a deeper problem with the muscle on his right thigh, leaving him out potentially for a few weeks. Golovin was third in expected assists per 90 for Monaco last season, while leading them in Ligue 1 assists in 2023-24, along with Takumi Minamino (30), both of whom had six.
The Russian won’t be ready in time for their UEFA Champions League opener on Thursday at Club Brugge or their following match in that competition versus Manchester City. Injury issues have not been uncommon for the Russian midfielder, who missed some time last season due to an ankle issue.
Golovin has appeared in three of Monaco’s first four league fixtures this season. The Russian was in the starting XI for all three of his appearances in 2025-26. However, he suffered his latest setback just before last Saturday’s game against L’AJA.
