Arye Deri denies telling Shas MKs to prepare to leave gov't coalition in coming days

Israel's public broadcaster KAN News reported the claim earlier on Sunday evening, but it was later denied by a spokesperson from Deri's office.

Shas Party Leader Arye Deri denied reports that he told party officials to prepare to leave the government coalition within the next few days, a spokesperson from Deri's office confirmed on Sunday.

Israel's public broadcaster KAN News reported the claim earlier on Sunday evening.

According to KAN's report, Deri told the party officials that Shas, along with the other haredi (ultra-Orthodox) party United Torah Judaism, were preparing to leave the coalition, and would try to legislate the haredi draft law from the opposition.

Shas will not seek to dissolve the Knesset, according to the report.

This comes after an announcement last week that haredi parties will not back down over the haredi draft law, and are demanding to see the text of the bill.

This is a developing story.
