Man arrested for threatening, spitting on female soldier in Jerusalem

The soldier tried to escape into a nearby business, but the suspect chased after her and threatened her, saying, “I will kill you tomorrow.”

A Jerusalem man was arrested after spitting on and threatening a female IDF soldier near the central bus station in Jerusalem, Israel Police reported on Friday.

On July 6, police received a report of the assault on the soldier, who was walking near the central bus station. The suspect, a man in his 30s, was seen spitting on the soldier as she passed by the station to board a bus to her military base.

The soldier tried to escape into a nearby business, but the suspect chased after her and threatened her, saying, “I will kill you tomorrow.”

An employee of the business, who tried to intervene and protect the soldier, was also met with violent threats from the suspect, according to police.

Officers from the Lev HaBira police station and the Jerusalem District Police arrived at the scene, where they located and arrested the suspect.

During questioning, the suspect was brought before the court, where his detention was extended due to the severity of the case.

Suspect facing indictment for separate incident

The suspect is also facing another indictment for a separate incident that occurred several weeks earlier in Jerusalem.

On June 20, the suspect arrived at a local bar late in the evening and asked to be served alcohol. However, because of a previous altercation, he was refused entry. In response, he threw chairs and tables, yelling and cursing at the employee.

The suspect then left the bar but returned shortly afterward, where he sprayed pepper spray onto the employee's face and body. A nearby police officer witnessed the crime and shouted at the suspect to stop. The suspect fled the scene, throwing a can at the officer and hitting him in the head.

After a short police chase, the suspect was arrested and resisted being handcuffed. While being placed in the police car, he insulted the officers and cursed at them.

The employee suffered minor injuries from the pepper spray. The suspect now faces charges including assaulting a public servant, obstructing justice, and using offensive language towards a police officer.
