Angel City FC’s Savy King underwent a procedure to address a heart abnormality on Tuesday, just days after she collapsed on the field during a match, the team announced.
The abnormality was discovered after King went down late during the club’s 2-0 win over the Utah Royals on Friday night. The 20-year-old went down suddenly in the 74th minute of the match at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. She received medical attention on the field before she was taken off on a cart and transported to a local hospital.

The terrifying moment led to a lengthy delay and left players from both clubs shaken up on the field. The two teams returned to the center of the field to pray together after the game, too.
Play eventually resumed as normal. King was admitted to a different Los Angeles-area hospital on Saturday morning, which is where the heart abnormality was discovered. Further specifics on her condition are not yet known, though Tuesday's procedure went well and her "prognosis is excellent."
“She is now resting and recovering surrounded by her family, and her prognosis is excellent,” the team said, in part. “We are incredibly thankful for the outstanding medical care she has received and the overwhelming support from our community.”
King is in her second season in the NWSL this year. She spent last season with Bay FC, who selected her with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft out of North Carolina, where she made 12 starts and had two assists. Angel City FC struck a deal to trade for the defender in February. She has started in all eight of their matches this season.

A timeline for King’s return to the field is not yet known.
“We are blessed to share that Savy is recovering well and we are looking forward to having her home with us soon,” her family said in a statement. “We want to thank the incredible Angel City medical staff and players who acted swiftly as well as the medical teams that have given her such exceptional care. We will never forget the kindness you’ve shown, our gratitude is endless.”
