11 fall dresses under $50 that look like Ralph Lauren, but cost at least 5x less

Do you describe your personal style as all-American preppy or old money classic mixed with the occasional countryside twist? (Hello, barn jackets!) Essentially, it sounds like you're a fan of Ralph Lauren. The 58-year-old brand is a pro at making timeless basics and classic styles that endure the test of time. That said, while beautiful, its clothing is expensive. Dresses usually start at around $130 and can run upwards of several thousand dollars. You can shop the sales, or you can take a look at our list of fall dresses under $50 that all give off similar vibes.

The key to dressing like you're an American aristocrat is well-tailored or well-fitting clothing, often in neutral colors or tasteful patterns. If you need some help, these dresses are a one-step trick to looking effortlessly elegant. Slip one on, pair it with a brown suede accessory for fall, and you're good to go.

This sweater dress is effortlessly elegant, thanks to its fitted top and flowy, pleated skirt. Beige gives off an obvious "rich mom" vibe, but it comes in 11 other colors too, including black, light pink and army green. Each one has a contrasting trim at the sleeves and skirt to give it a little extra flair.

"Very soft and warm, but not too heavy or hot," explained a five-star reviewer. "Ribbed top fits snugly, but not too tight. Skirt, with the pleats, is loose and swirls when walking. Love the opposing color trim on the sleeves and hem. I'm 5'2" and this dress hits me about 3-4 inches above my ankle and is just right for heels or boots. I can belt it or wear a blazer and it looks very chic [and] classy."

This crewneck sweater dress is 100% cotton, and it comes in two shades of beige. However, what makes this baby stand out is its decorative seaming on the outside around the shoulders and down the back. You can wear it with boots, flats, sneakers or heels. It's a versatile piece you can reach to for almost any occassion.

Denim is in, and not just for jeans. Check it out in this mini shirt dress! Because it's made of denim, it retains its shape while remaining soft to the touch. Wear it on its own or layer it over a T-shirt or light turtleneck this fall.

However, shoppers warn that it runs big, so order a size down. One said: "The dress is made from seriously heavyweight denim material with no stretch. Gorgeous dark wash with pockets. However, it runs really, really big. ... I had to return it and order a much smaller size."

If your closet is mostly beige, mix things up with a color — better yet, a colorful print. This balloon-sleeve maxi dress has a paisley-like pattern that stands out for all the right reasons. The flowy skirt and belted waist makes for a flattering fit, too.

While the cut of this dress may look similar to Hill House Home's famous nap dress, the tartan plaid feels totally on point for Ralph Lauren. Wear this dress with heels at the start of fall and with tights and boots this winter. One reviewer said that they think the dress is "very well made and such a classic look with a twist."

If you love florals, try this moody print that's right on par with the fall foliage outside. With a cinched waist that flatters and a flowing skirt that moves as you walk, this chiffon dress is stylish yet comfortable enough for all-day wear. This style comes in petite and plus sizes as well, so you can find your perfect fit.

This slinky number channels serious Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy wedding-dress vibes (no surprise, since she was one of Ralph Lauren's muses). And while the brand is famous for horseback-rider chic, it has always excelled at evening elegance, too. This Old Navy special-occasion piece is a dead ringer for this piece from Lauren's fall collection. Wear it with dripping jewels for an evening party, or pair it with a chunky sweater or a denim trucker jacket for some daytime polish.

The champagne color is gorgeous, but it also comes in plain black, bright coral, a black and white polka dot print and a floral print.

Have something special coming up? This satin wrap maxi is comfortable, stylish and all-around flattering. The deep plum color will look good on most, too. This dress also comes in misses, petite and plus sizes. According to the brand, it runs a tad big, so size down before you buy.

If you love an oversized sweater, you're bound to love a sweater dress. It's really just an extra oversized sweater, isn't it? It's even more comfortable, though, since you don't have to squeeze into a pair of hard pants. Anyways, this sweater dress mini is soft and stretchy, but durable (it's part polyester). It comes in gray, beige and olive.
