The (FIFA) has decided to dock three points from South Africa in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, following the illegal fielding of midfielder Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho.

This sanction has shaken up the hierarchy in Group C, leaving South Africa level on points with Benin (14 points each). The upcoming clash between Zimbabwe and South Africa now promises to be even more intense and decisive.

During a press conference last week, Zimbabwe coach Michael Nees reacted with humor to the sanction:
“Let me look if there are no yellow card's”. he joked.

He added with a smile : “' Okay, now let me look if there is no yellow card…let me check again…yellow cards are okay,”

Let’s recall that next Friday, Zimbabwe’s “Warriors” will face South Africa’s “Bafana Bafana” as part of matchday 9 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
