The Cleveland Guardians have established a rapport over the years for developing pitching and for having keen defense on their side, but one thing they have been searching for throughout is reliable left-handed power.
And we don't mean lefty power coming from switch hitters such as Jose Ramirez and Carlos Santana, we're talking legit lefty loft.
And that solution doesn't lie too far from Progressive Field, it's over at Camden Yards in Baltimore with first baseman/designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn.
O'Hearn who was recently named to his first All-Star Game as the starting designated hitter, has seen a massive improvement in 2025 after a decent 2024 saw him produce 15 homers with 59 runs batted in.
The Oriole has already almost produced that this year, and we're not even at the All-Star break, hitting 11 home runs with 30 runs batted in and boasting a .287 batting average.
With O'Hearn's lefty power, the right-center alley at Progressive Field should practically have the former Royal's name on it, and his veteran presence alongside J-Ram, Santana, and Bo Naylor will allow him to bring balance to the Cleveland lineup as they look to make it back to the playoffs in 2025.
He may not be the stereotypical 40-homer DH that many teams have boasted in the past, but with the other firepower on the team, that production won't exactly be necessary.
Signing O'Hearn will also allow Cleveland to not have to break the bank for a big bat, presenting a low-risk, medium-reward with real upside, which should remind Guardians fans of when they signed Mike Napoli back in 2016.
