Why isn't Jaydon Blue playing? Cowboys rookie RB gets surprise inactive decision again

The Cowboys backfield is in need of some juice and this week it's going to have to come from a couple veterans.

Fans have been clamoring for rookie running back Jaydon Blue. He was a fifth round selection out of the University of Texas and was expected to provide some burst to the committee.

But another surprising decision has landed Blue on the sidelines for week two.

Why isn't Jaydon Blue playing?

Jaydon Blue has been listed as inactive ahead of Sunday's game against the New York Giants. He was also inactive in week one against Philadelphia.

The rookie struggled with an ankle injury during the preseason but he's been medically cleared for weeks.

“Young players, it hits at different times. He’s extremely talented," head coach Brian Schottenheimer said of Blue this week. "You have to earn your chance to get out there. There has to be consistency.”

The quote is cryptic. Schottenheimer could be referring to Blue's practice habits, his knowledge of the playbook, or anything in between.

The Cowboys will have Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, and fullback Hunter Luepke as their active rushers. Kavonte Turpin could see some work as a specialist in the backfield as well.

Many fans were upset last week when Sanders fumbled the ball in the third quarter, calling for Blue instead of the veteran.

It'll be at least another week of this committee before Blue gets his chance to shine.
