Dayot Upamecano is out of contract at the end of the season, and Bayern Munich are naturally keen to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
The problem for the club is that the French international is in a very strong negotiating position.
According to Abendzeitung, Upamecano is demanding a higher salary, seeing himself positioned between €15–20 million annually.
Currently, he could earn up to €16 million per year, but only if all his performance bonuses are triggered.
The report also states that Upamecano’s current contract includes a €120 million release clause, and he is reportedly pushing for a similar clause in a new deal.
