Coming off a $10 million contract extension and two games into the 2025 season, and Atwell has 1 reception on two targets for four yards, causing the question to be asked: Why did the Los Angeles Rams re-sign Atwell? Despite Atwell’s miniscule box score and slow start, the Rams are 2-0, but what do fans want to see the organization do with the one-time high draft pick and now Year-5 wideout?
There’s more to a player and their performance on gameday than a box score. Atwell may be providing veteran leadership, a practice presence and someone who will step up when given more opportunities in the passing game. Atwell hasn’t been featured yet with only one target, but this is the same team that was willing to move on from Cooper Kupp because of his lack of production, so what exactly is keeping the Rams tied to Atwell?
When the Rams signed Atwell to that 1-year $10 million extension, it was met by some skepticism. Atwell has never excelled with the Rams offense the way other pass catcher like Brandon Cooks, Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua have.
He has been a strong depth piece who at times is at his best, when his best is required, such as his touchdown in a playoff game against the Detroit Lions and his NEEDED snag in an early win over the San Francico 49ers in the ‘24 season.
- Keep things as they are
- Forcibly get Atwell more involved
- Keep an ear open for any type of interest that could lead to a trade
Thoe are a few of the ideas that I have had, but we hope to hear from you! Comment below on what you think the team should do with Tutu!
