Vanderbilt's basketball team has a new star, and you probably already know his name.

Chandler Bing, an Atlanta native who announced his commitment to Vanderbilt on April 29, shares his name with the beloved character from Friends played by the late Matthew Perry.

Bing, however, has never seen the iconic series that aired throughout the late 1990's.

"I actually haven't watched the show," he told The Tennessean in an interview published on Friday, May 2.

"But I never really had a problem with [the jokes]," said Bing, 18, adding that he's heard many jokes about his name, "especially" when he was younger. "Once people told me about it, I was like, 'Okay, well, I know I'm going to get it a lot now," Bing continued.

And his parents weren't Friends super-fans either. "My parents weren't even thinking about the show," he told the outlet. "My mom has seen the show, but when they were naming me, I guess she didn't watch it that much, wasn't even thinking about that."

As he prepares to join the Commodores this season, Bing said he's looking forward to "playing against the best guys" in his first year.

According to The Tennessean, Bing also received offers from Georgia State, Texas State and Troy.

"It was a pretty easy decision for me," Bing told the outlet of Vanderbilt. "Going up there, seeing the campus, the facilities, the city. It definitely was a spot, a place where I can grow on and off the court."

Users quickly jumped into his replies with Friends references, including one user who wrote, "Could you BE any more committed?," referencing Perry's signature delivery.

Another clever commenter said, "But who will do all the transponstering?," which references the episode where Chandler and Joey won Rachel and Monica's apartment when the girls couldn't correctly identify Chandler's job. In the episode, Rachel blurted out, "Transponster," and Monica replied, "That's not even a word!"

The commenters couldn't pass up the opportunity to mention the Friends character's recurring ex-girlfriend Janice, writing, "In Janice’s voice: Oh. My. God."
