UCF offensive line coach Shawn Clark hospitalized after medical emergency

UCF said Wednesday that offensive line coach Shawn Clark was hospitalized after experiencing a medical emergency on Tuesday night.

“[Clark] is currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate care,” a statement said. “Coach [Scott] Frost and our football and administration staffs are fully supporting Coach Clark and his loved ones during this time and our thoughts and prayers are with Shawn and his family. Updates will be shared as appropriate.”

Clark, 50, joined the UCF staff after Frost was hired for his second tenure with the Knights following Gus Malzahn’s departure to Florida State.

Clark was the head coach of Appalachian State for five seasons before coming to UCF. The Mountaineers were 40-24 in his time in Boone, but Clark was fired after a 5-6 season in 2024 as the school said that “the expectation for App State football is to annually compete for a conference championship and a berth in the College Football Playoff.”

The Mountaineers won at least nine games in three of Clark’s five seasons with the team and were 10-4 in 2021.

Before succeeding Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz at App State, Clark was the team’s assistant head coach and offensive line coach. A former App State offensive lineman, Clark coached the offensive line for four seasons for the Mountaineers and was previously an assistant at Kent State and Purdue.
