Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton finally shared what’s been weighing on him after tearing his Achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals and he’s had enough of one well-meaning comment.
In his first post since the injury, Haliburton opened up on social media, sharing a photo of himself recovering in a hospital bed and a message filled with raw honesty. One part stood out the most:
“Now that I’ve gotten surgery, I wish I could count the number of times people will tell me I’m going to ‘come back stronger.’ What a cliche lol, this [expletive] sucks,” Haliburton wrote on X. “My foot feels like dead weight fam. But what’s hurting most I think is my mind.”
The 25-year-old was injured early in Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder after hitting three big shots in the opening minutes. While his team ultimately fell short, Haliburton made it clear he doesn’t regret pushing through.
“I’ve worked my whole life to get to this moment and this is how it ends? Makes no sense,” he said. “But honestly, right now, torn Achilles and all, I don’t regret it. I’d do it again, and again after that, to fight for this city and my brothers.”
Fans had hoped for a fairytale ending to the Pacers’ postseason run, but Haliburton’s injury shifted everything. The guard, who had already been managing a calf issue, will likely miss the entire 2025–26 NBA season.
In his post, Haliburton admitted that it has been harder mentally, even more so than physically.
“Feel like I’m rambling, but I know this is something I’ll look back on when I’m through this, as something I’m proud I fought through. It feels good to let this [expletive] out without y’all seeing the kid ugly cry.”

He also apologized to Indiana fans for not being able to bring the title home but vowed to return stronger, on his terms.
“Indy, I’m sorry. If any fan base doesn’t deserve this, it’s y’all. But together we are going to fight like hell to get back to this very spot.”
Haliburton closed with a message of faith and determination, quoting a famous line from Kobe Bryant, who faced a similar setback during his career. He also included a Bible verse, emphasizing his belief in a bigger plan.
“I don’t ‘have to’ go through this, I get to go through this. I’m grateful for the road that lies ahead. Watch how I come back from this.”
For now, Haliburton is recovering quietly, with the support of fans, teammates and loved ones, and making it clear he just wants people to stop with the clichés and let him heal in his own way.
