Top Aggies RB KJ Edwards Commit Issues Personal Message After Canceling Texas Visit

Upon his commitment to the Texas A&M Aggies, KJ Edwards made the reason behind his decision personal.

A native of Carthage, Texas, a town of under 7,000 located three hours from College Station near the Louisiana border, Edwards is the No. 3-ranked running back prospect in the country for the class of 2026 and a top-50 prospect.

He had interest from traditional SEC powerhouses like Alabama and LSU and was predicted to commit to in-state rival Texas.

However, when it came down to his decision, originally scheduled for Aug. 2, Edwards was already sold on being an Aggie, prompting him to cancel his visit to Austin a few days after a June 13 visit to College Station.

On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett reported Edwards' commitment to Texas A&M on June 17, to which Edwards replied shortly after he spurned the Longhorns.

Texas A&M Aggies commit Kelwin (KJ) Edwards won the Offensive MVP award during the 2020 4A DII UIL Texas State Football Championship.

"All glory to God!! AggieLand I'm home," Edwards said, according to Fawcett.

Edwards didn't need to offer any more words himself, resharing the news with a pair of home emojis.

As a junior, Edwards rushed for 1,789 yards and 23 touchdowns at a 12.6-yard clip per. He also reeled in 30 catches, 383 yards and three touchdowns in helping Carthage win the Class 4A-Division II state title.

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound running back joins fellow four-star recruit Jonathan Hatton Jr.

Both top-10 running backs in the country, Hatton and Edwards secure the Aggies running back room that will lose Le'Veon Moss, Amari Daniels and EJ Smith after this season.
