Trust me, I've learned the hard way. Growing up in Michigan, summer road trips were a ritual. We'd pack the Ford with sub sandwiches, crumpled road maps (remember those?) and an unspoken understanding that we were in for way too many bathroom breaks. If we wanted to see anything beyond lakes and cornfields, we had to earn it — usually with a full day (or more) of driving.
